Ten minutes before the end, the match seemed to be decided. Plat headed in the 2-0 from a Haraguchi corner. The referee initially approved the goal, but after consulting with his assistant, he made the remarkable decision that there had been obstruction of the goalkeeper. Wright-Phillips, a few metres away from Lathouwers, was deemed to have obstructed him by the refereeing trio. So it remained 1-0 and Beerschot had to hope that the ball would not fall well for RWDM.
In the extra time, Beerschot was dealt a final blow. Labie, who had just suffered from cramps, wanted to clear the ball but ended up beating his own goalkeeper.
