Beerschot kicks off 2026 with a winMatch - report19 JanBeerschot started the new year with a victory. Yesterday afternoon, the Mannekes beat Olympic Charleroi 2-1. Beerschot were without Loïc Mbe Soh, who is about to complete a transfer to STVV. This meant another starting place for Bas Van den Eynde, who returned after a long rehabilitation. Colin Dagba also reappeared in defence.
After a tentative opening quarter of an hour, Beerschot made its presence felt for the first time. Plat headed towards goal from a cross by Dagba, but goalkeeper Herrerin was able to make the save. Barely a minute later, Shinton had to intervene twice at the other end. Dailly found himself alone in front of goal, but the Beerschot goalkeeper made a fine save. Moments later, Dailly tried again with a well-placed shot, but that too was superbly parried. Shinton, who had been criticised by some of his own supporters before New Year, kept his team in the game.
Beerschot then took more and more initiative. Attempts by Vula and Haraguchi did not result in a goal, but just before half-time, the deserved opener came. Vula crossed to the far post, where Wright-Phillips kicked in with the outside of his foot. The Mannekes went into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead. After the break, they struck again immediately. This time, Wright-Phillips set up his strike partner and Vula finished easily: 2-0. A comfortable lead for Beerschot.
Five minutes before the end, things got exciting again. After a corner, Dailly managed to score the equaliser. However, Beerschot did not really get into trouble again. The Mannekes thus start 2026 with a home win and climb back to third place, six points behind second-placed KV Kortrijk.
After the match, Loic Mbe Soh said goodbye to the Beerschot fans. His transfer to STVV will be announced shortly, after all the necessary tests have been completed. On Saturday, Beerschot will play away at Lokeren. Another important match in the battle for promotion.K Beerschot VA Olympic Charleroi
