SK Beveren 4 K Beerschot VA 2
Painful end to the year Match - report 21 Dec Beerschot lost their fourth consecutive league match yesterday. The Mannekes will now enter the winter break with a painful 0 out of 12. After defeats against Club NXT, Patro and Jong Gent, Beerschot was clearly going through a difficult period. On top of that, a tough away game against league leaders Beveren awaited, and the team also had to deal with a number of injuries. Nevertheless, Beerschot started the game with a clear game plan and the necessary confidence.

That confidence was rewarded early on. After eight minutes, Van Himbeeck sent Wright-Phillips deep. Our winger remained calm in front of goal and laid off a perfect pass to the advancing Vula, who coolly slotted home to make it 0-1. A few minutes later, an almost identical attack followed. Once again, it was Van Himbeeck with the splitting pass to Wright-Phillips, once again he found Vula and once again our striker finished with composure. After fifteen minutes of play, Beerschot was surprisingly but deservedly 0-2 ahead.

The home team was clearly shaken and barely managed to create any danger before half-time. Only Margaritha was able to test goalkeeper Shinton, but he kept his net clean and ensured that Beerschot went into the dressing room with a two-goal lead.

After the break, the game completely changed. Beveren came out of the dressing room sharp and managed to score the equaliser around the hour mark. Brian Plat unluckily put a cross into his own goal. Twenty minutes before the end, the pressure increased when Jordanov had to leave early after receiving a second yellow card.

Beveren took advantage of their numerical superiority almost immediately. Godeau deflected a cross from Margaritha past Shinton to level the score. Not long after, things got even worse for Beerschot: Margaritha curled the ball beautifully into the far corner to put Beveren ahead.

Five minutes before the end, the final verdict was delivered. Dennis Gyamfi headed a harmless deep ball from the home team too softly back towards Shinton. Substitute Slegers was quick to react and easily put the ball in the net to make it 4-2.

Beerschot thus ends 2025 in third place. Overall, it has been a solid first half of the season, although the painful 0-12 defeat of recent weeks still lingers. It is time to recharge and take a well-deserved rest, with a view to a fresh start in 2026.
