K Beerschot VA 1 SK Beveren 1
Draw in the top match Match - report 18 Oct Beerschot and Beveren each earned a point in the weekend's top match. Both teams remain undefeated this season. After two weeks without competitive football, Beerschot had to wait and see whether they could maintain their good form. The Mannekes started the match strongly and took control in the opening phase, although this did not result in any major chances.

After ten minutes, Beveren made their first threatening attack. Janssens shot just over the bar, and that was the start of several dangerous phases in front of Shinton's goal. In the 14th minute, Bruls delivered a perfect cross to Mertens' head, but Shinton made a fine save. Moments later, the goalkeeper had to intervene again when Jordanov almost scored an own goal.

Beerschot tried to respond, but found few solutions in attack. A free kick that landed straight in the hands of goalkeeper Reus was the home side's only achievement in the first half.

Ten minutes before half-time, Beveren came close to opening the scoring. Shinton made two excellent saves, and Najim's shot hit the crossbar. Beerschot was lucky to be 0-0 at the break.

Coach Messoudi took action during the break: Guendouz stayed in the dressing room and Vargas came on in his place. Beerschot started the second half well, but in the 55th minute it was Mertens who reacted alertly to a strange high ball after a save by Shinton and put the visitors 0-1 ahead.

The home team showed character and went in search of the equaliser. Vargas breathed new life into the attack and, after a cross from him, Jordanov had a chance to shoot, but Reus made a fine save. From the resulting corner by Van Eenoo, Mbe Soh rose higher than everyone else and headed home the 1-1.

In the final quarter of an hour, the game remained balanced, with no notable chances. Both teams had to settle for a point.

Beerschot remains unbeaten and will travel to the Soevereinstadion next week with confidence for the clash with Lommel.
