Beerschot takes the break with a 15 out of 15 Match - report 29 Sep A packed Olympic Stadium saw Beerschot defeat Lokeren in the final minutes.

Beerschot went into their clash with Lokeren looking for a third victory in just one week. After only eight minutes, however, the team suffered a setback: Bas Van den Eynden was forced off injured. Glenn Claes came on as his replacement, prompting coach Messoudi to reshuffle his line-up immediately.

Still, it was Beerschot who created the first big chance. Van Eenoo struck the woodwork, and Van la Parra couldn’t convert the rebound. The home side’s intentions were clear from the start, but genuine danger in front of goal took a while to follow. Around the half-hour mark, Vargas tried his luck from distance but fired over. Lokeren responded with a long-range effort of their own, though it caused no trouble for goalkeeper Shinton. Moments later, the visitors did come close when a cross from Brrou deflected off Mbe Soh and nearly ended up in his own net, but Shinton reacted brilliantly to save. The score remained 0-0 at half-time.

Right after the break, Shinton had to intervene again, pulling off a sharp reflex save to deny Janssen. As the second half progressed, Beerschot began to push forward once more. Twenty minutes from time, Vula headed a corner just wide, and Haraguchi’s attempt was kept out by Vervacke. From the resulting corner, Labie almost found the net in a scramble, but his shot struck teammate Vula, unintentionally preventing the opener.

Five minutes from time, the pressure finally paid off. Substitute Guendouz broke into the penalty area and was brought down. Penalty to Beerschot. Van Eenoo kept his composure and slotted the ball straight down the middle for 1-0.

Lokeren tried to fight back, but another excellent save from Shinton secured the win. Beerschot close this stretch with a flawless 15 out of 15. After the international break, on Friday 17 October, the Mannekes will host league leaders SK Beveren.
