K Beerschot VA delivered another rock-solid performance at the Olympisch Stadion on 't Kiel. Against Royal Francs Borains, coach Mo Messoudi’s team dominated the entire match, resulting in a more than deserved 3-0 victory and their eighth win of the season.
Coach Mo Messoudi stuck to the familiar starting eleven from last weekend's match away at Eupen, with just one change on the bench among the reserve goalkeepers, where Xavier Gies replaced Brent Stevens.
The match reached a major turning point after barely two minutes. Mathias Francotte of Francs Borains brought down the breaking Anas Haj Mohamed on the edge of the penalty area. Referee Bert Verbeke did not hesitate and immediately brandished a red card. Even after a video challenge requested by the visitors, the decision stood, meaning Francs Borains had to play with ten men for almost the entire match.
Beerschot immediately took a firm grip on the match and camped almost permanently in the visitors' half. Chances followed in rapid succession, with attempts from Lukas Van Eenoo and Haj Mohamed among others, but the visiting defense and goalkeeper Swinnen held firm for the time being.
Just before the half-time whistle, the relentless pressure finally paid off. Following a video challenge for a shirt pull on Arnold Vula, the ball was unhesitatingly pointed to the spot. Penalty specialist Brian Plat coolly sent goalkeeper Swinnen the wrong way and easily tucked away the 1-0 (43'). With a deserved lead, the Mannekes headed into the dressing rooms.
Early in the second half, Beerschot immediately shifted up a gear to extend their lead. Toshio Lake, who had replaced Glenn Claes at half-time, quickly made his presence felt. After a neat combination with Van Eenoo, Arnold Vula was served the ball on a silver platter. Vula did not hesitate and simply tapped in his 8th goal of the season: 2-0 (49')!
With a comfortable double lead and a man advantage, the Mannekes controlled the game maturely. The team didn't need to push too hard anymore, although goalkeeper William Popp had to roll up his sleeves around the hour mark with a fine goal-line save from a dangerous free kick.
The absolute highlight of the evening came ten minutes from time. The lively substitute Toshio Lake unleashed a masterful shot from a few meters outside the penalty area. His brilliant strike flew straight into the top corner: a real gem and 3-0 on the scoreboard (79')!
In the closing stages, Messoudi brought on fresh legs (Brahic, Jordanov, and Einaga) and our boys produced some lovely plays that just narrowly missed making it a fourth. After three minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle at 3-0.
With this convincing home win, our Mannekes brilliantly continue their unbeaten run!
