The lads fought their way to their first away win with ten men. Match - report 29 Aug Beerschot have picked up their first three points away from home.

Our Mannekes secured a 0-1 victory away at RSCA Futures on Saturday evening. Toshio Lake scored the only goal of the game after just eight minutes. Following Dennis Gyamfi’s sending-off, Beerschot had to play with ten men for more than a half, but the Mannekes held on. After three matchdays, Beerschot now have six points.

Beerschot made a bright start to the game in Deinze. After just four minutes, goalkeeper Seghers was already called into action to deny Dennis Gyamfi, but moments later the visitors took the lead. Lukas Van Eenoo delivered a cross towards the far post, where Toshio Lake met it perfectly on the volley. The Dutchman saw his effort fly past Seghers and into the net: 0-1. A dream start for Lake, who was making his first start for the club.

The Mannekes controlled the game well after taking the lead. Lake came close to scoring a second after 28 minutes. The attacker brilliantly beat three defenders with a backheel before getting a shot away, but his effort went straight at Seghers. Jelle Vossen also came close to making it 0-2 when he headed a Lake cross just wide.

Just before the hour mark, however, the game took an unexpected turn. Having already been booked, Dennis Gyamfi received a second yellow card for pulling down an opponent. The referee was sent to the pitchside monitor following a challenge requested by Mo Messoudi, but he upheld his decision. Beerschot therefore had to play with ten men for more than 45 minutes.

The Futures immediately tried to take advantage of their numerical superiority. In first-half stoppage time, Brian Plat and Bas Van den Eynden both had to clear the ball off the line. The Mannekes went into the dressing room with a 0-1 lead, but knew they still had a tough second half ahead of them.

Mo Messoudi made a change at half-time. Edisson Jordanov replaced Jelle Vossen, while Omar Sarr – who had already been walking a disciplinary tightrope after his first yellow card – stayed in the dressing room for the home side. RSCA Futures continued to search for an equaliser after the break. Akomolede got a dangerous deflection on a ball heading towards goal, but William Popp reacted sharply. Moments later, our goalkeeper had to pull off another excellent save to keep out a powerful effort from N'Dao towards the far post. Popp kept Beerschot in front with a fine stop.

Meanwhile, Beerschot continued to look for opportunities on the counter. Arnold Vula tried to catch Seghers off guard with a clever lob from almost the halfway line, but the Anderlecht goalkeeper just managed to pluck the ball out of the air. Moments later, Beerschot had another excellent chance to make it 0-2. Glenn Claes did brilliantly down the left and delivered a low cross towards Wright-Phillips, but Seghers got a fingertip to the ball and prevented a second Beerschot goal.

The home side increased the pressure in the final 15 minutes. Sternal fired into the side netting and Beerschot were forced further and further back. The Mannekes remained dangerous, however. Vula sent Claes through, and he picked out Haraguchi. The Japanese midfielder tried to find the corner with a placed effort, but once again Seghers stood firm.
The tension continued to rise in the closing stages. The Futures appealed for a penalty following a suspected handball, but the fourth and final challenge of the game also resulted in no penalty being awarded. Beerschot continued to fight for every ball and picked up several yellow cards during the dying stages.

After an extremely nervy second half, referee Tim De Keyzer finally brought the game to an end. Beerschot secured an important victory and now have six points from their opening three games. Two home matches are coming up next, starting next Friday against Patro Eisden Maasmechelen. RSCA Futures
