In the sixth round of the Croky Cup, our Mannekes will face Crossing Schaarbeek tomorrow. We look ahead to the match with Bas Van den Eynden.
In the league, Beerschot are currently in top form, but the Croky Cup is a competition in its own right. Bas Van den Eynden is well aware of this. “The Croky Cup is something special, and you’re bound to come up against surprises, especially in the first round. Naturally, we’re the favourites tomorrow, and it’s up to us not to let ourselves be caught off guard.”
Crossing Schaarbeek currently top the second amateur division and are therefore also in fine form. “They’ll go into this match full of confidence. For them, this is the match of the year, so they’ll be extra sharp. Actually, we saw that with Sporting Hasselt too. For them, the match against us was also the match of the year. We weren’t sharp enough in the first half and need to learn from that,” says our 24-year-old defender.
The match will be played on artificial turf tomorrow. Could that be a factor? “Of course it’s a factor. They’re used to playing on it here every two weeks. I’ve heard it’s a good, new pitch, though. Well, in any case, we mustn’t let it get in the way tomorrow.”
According to Bas, the biggest danger lies in conceding an early goal. “We must make sure we don’t fall behind, because then they’ll gain confidence. It’s up to us to remain patient and move the ball well from foot to foot. If we’re clinical in front of goal, I can see us getting through.”
