Preview: RFC Liège v BeerschotMen13 MarRFC Liège and Beerschot face off tomorrow evening at 8.00 pm. We’ll be previewing the match with Brian Plat. First, let’s take a quick look back at earlier this week. In the victory against RSCA Futures, Brian Plat scored a hat-trick. An evening to remember. “You could say that,” smiles the Dutchman. “I’d only scored once before in my career. To score three in a single match straight away is, of course, very special. Okay, they were three penalties, but you still have to put them in the net.”
With a perfect 9 out of 9, the Mannekes head to Liège full of confidence. Meanwhile, a place in the play-offs is already secured. Second place looks set to be a tough ask, though Beerschot remain hopeful. “We have to be realistic and admit that second place will be difficult,” says the 25-year-old Dutchman. “But there are still four games to play and we want to finish as high as possible. As long as it’s mathematically possible, we have to keep believing. Still, that’s not our main goal at the moment. As we’ve often said in recent weeks: we’re taking it one game at a time. We’ll have to do the same in the potential play-offs.”
For Liège, tomorrow’s match could be crucial in the battle for promotion. In the first leg, the Bears won convincingly 3-0. What does Plat expect from the return fixture? “Liège always have a strong home record. Their home matches are nothing like their away matches. So we certainly shouldn’t expect it to be the same game as in the first leg. We’ve also been doing well away from home this season, so I expect a balanced match with plenty of intensity.”
