Preview Beerschot – Kortrijk Men 01 Nov Two days after the cup upset against Westerlo, we can already look forward to another top match. Tomorrow, Beerschot will host KV Kortrijk at the Olympic Stadium in a direct battle for second place. We spoke with Brian Plat beforehand. The Dutchman has not missed a single minute in the last five matches and has become a fixture in Mo Messoudi's team. Playing a lot of minutes makes him visibly happy. ‘Of course, I'm happy with the season I've had so far,’ says Brian. ‘The coach has a lot of confidence in me, and I think you can see that in my play. I try to stay calm in every situation — that suits my personality. I like to stay in the background and try to do my job there. Things like this, giving interviews, are less my thing,’ he laughs.

These are good times at the Kiel. Beerschot has remained undefeated this season and on Thursday knocked first division Westerlo out of the cup. The Mannekes are now the only non-first division team left in the cup tournament. ‘We just try to win every game,’ says Brian. "It doesn't matter who the opponent is — we have confidence in ourselves. The coaches always come up with a good tactical plan, and when you win a few times in a row, that confidence naturally grows."

Tomorrow, KV Kortrijk awaits, in a direct battle for second place. How does the 25-year-old defender view this? ‘Tomorrow's result will not determine where we end up at the end of the season,’ he says matter-of-factly. ‘It doesn't matter to us whether we are currently first, second or third. We just want to give our best every week so that we end up where we belong.’

Both teams played a midweek match this week. Could the physical aspect be the deciding factor? ‘We both played at the same time, so that can't be an excuse. We've shown before that we're physically strong, and we want to prove that again tomorrow.’

See you tomorrow at 4 p.m.: Beerschot – KV Kortrijk.
