With 14 points out of 18, Beerschot can look back on a strong start. Shinton himself is also pleased: “During pre-season we worked hard to be sharp right from matchday one. With many new players in the squad, it’s important to spend a lot of hours on the training pitch. You can tell we’re finding each other better and better, and that we’re able to maintain our level for longer during the games”, said the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
The convincing win against Francs Borains gave confidence, although Shinton still saw a point for improvement: “As a goalkeeper, you always want to keep a clean sheet. Conceding a goal in the final stages was frustrating. As a team, we have to make sure we stay focused for the full ninety minutes. But aside from that, it was a strong performance, and we want to carry that form into tomorrow.”
Tomorrow, Jong Genk awaits in Geel. Johan Van Rumst’s team won away at Lommel last week and will come in with confidence. Shinton knows Beerschot must be alert: “Genk’s youth academy is known for producing technically strong players. We can’t allow them to play their game. We’re still unbeaten in the league and we want to extend that run for as long as possible.
