Report: OH Leuven-Beerschot

Another win for Beerschot against OHL. And that has become a good habit now, as it is our sixth threepointer in a row against them. Our Mannekes performed well, were faultless at the back and created a handful of good chances. Tarik Tissoudali scored the only goal in this pleasant, enjoyable and intensive game of football. Hats off also for our defense for their third clean sheet in succession.

Very promising start for Beerschot with two clear chances for Suzuki and Tissoudali in the very first minute, but Romo saved, as he did again later at a “three shots in one go”-opportunity. OHL had difficulties with the flowing Beerschot combinations and countered only once when Mercier almost punished a rare mistake in our defense. But Vanhamel reacted wel.

Just after the half hour Beerschot nearly broke the deadlock. Suzuki and Tissoudali outplayed the whole OHL back four but Romo again went down quickly to make an important and impressive save. The home team restored the balance in the game and put the Beerschot defense under pressure. Van den Bergh put in a very good tackle but Pietermaat needed an obvious foul to hold off Schrijvers and Henry… and received a yellow card. Bad luck also for Joren Dom who had to be substituted because of a hamstring injury.

OHL claimed the ball in the second half but a concentrated Beerschot defense was confident and omnipresent. On the counter Holzhauser and Suzuki threatene, but Romo saved at the near post and saw the header fly wide.

Beerschot decided the game fifteen minutes from the end, when Tarik Tissoudali slalomed his way through and past three OHL defenders before putting the ball in the net. What a peach of a goal. In the final quarter our defense confirmed their brilliant form. Three important points in the bag… and what a boost for our next home game: the big derby against Antwerp. Denis Prychynenko got his fifth yellow card and will miss this match. Bad luck.
