BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE AND GREAT WIN AGAINST LEADER

Beerschot – Lommel: 2-1

Nice and deserved victory for Beerschot against leader Lommel on Friday night, after a dominant performance with goals from Sanusi in the first half and Nzita after the break. Lommel pulled one back but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Beerschot started impressively with good football, neat combinations, 70% bal possession and a handful of chances. But Verlinden, Reyners and Nzita's shots didn't hit the target.  Just after the half hour our Mannekes translated their dominance in a so well deserved goal. Captain Ryan Sanusi let fly from the edfe of the box and the ball went in in the far corner.  The Olympic Stadium erupted when Sanusi celebrated his goal in front of our fans.

Early in the second half Reyners almost doubled Beerschot's lead but De Busser saved. The 2-0 score was put on the scoreboard by Nzita who reacted well on a neat through ball from Verlinden. Beerschot seemed home and dry, even more when Amankwah was sent off for a blatant foul on Reyners.

Beerschot remained the better team on the night, pleased the fans with some nice football and nearly scored a third goal when Michez let fly from the edge of the box. His ball zoomed centimetres wide from the top corner. Lommel didn't give up and when they countered swiftly Vzncsa beat our defence and put the ball past Matijas in the net. It was the one and only opportunity from the visitors, who threatened in the final ten minutes... but Beerschot's win never came in jeopardy.
