Also in the five remaining matches Beerschot produced some excellent football: winning 1-0 at Cercle Brugge a week later, then losing 2-0 away at Antwerp where the ref gifted our rivals a penalty. A 0-0 draw against Union and two 2-1 derby wins over Berchem Sport and Antwerp were enough to clinch the title with a seven point lead over Standard. Daring and Union, the two top teams from Brussels at the time, finished third and fourth respectively. Eight points behind our ‘Mannekes’.
Beerschot scored 80 goals in 26 league games. Raymond Braine was top scorer with 25 goals. Yvan Thys netted 23, Pierre Mertens 12 and Pierre Braine 9.
