UP AND OVER

BEERSCHOT - KV KORTRIJK  2 - 1

Beerschot recorded their fourth league win of the season on Sunday night, and it was a thoroughly deserved one. With the exception of the first quarter of an hour our Mannekes were the better team, showed composure, grit and a winners' mentality, three essential elements in the relegation battle. Our new coach Greg Vanderidt's choices and tactical plan proved to be spot on, which wasn't obvious with six squad players missing after a positive covid test. With goals from Avenatti and Sebaoui Beerschot wiped out an early concecded goal and picked up the three points. In the table the gap between Beerschot and Seraing is now seven points.

Beerschot's start was sloppy which allowed KV Kortrijk to score early with a shot from Moreno that beat Biebauw. Our goalkeeper had to make a couple of good saves to prevent a second goal but then Beerschot firmly took control of the game. Avenatti and Vaca threatened and on the half hour it was Avenatti who converted a perfect high ball from De Smet. Just before the break Sebaoui scored number two after Pietermaat and Shankland did all the preparation. Nice comeback.

In the second half continued with their good work, showing determination concentration and confidence in ball possession; good tackling and severe man marking without the ball. The goalkeepers played their part with smart saves from Ilic after shots from Shankland,  Avenatti and De Smet who infiltrated cleverly from the left wing. And at the other end Biebauw was impeccable when Benchaid, Messaoudi and Vandendriessche tried their luck.
