BEERSCHOT ENGAGEING FOR A STRONGER SOCIETY VIA FSR
Beerschot believes in the power of sport as an engine for positive change. Through our Football Social Responsibility (FSR) policy, we focus on cooperation, training and education, inclusion and health prevention. With a special focus on young people and a strong neighbourhood approach, we want to take up our social role, together with local partners and residents. This way, we help build a healthier, stronger and more connected society step by step.
There are a lot of projects the club is working on, here we follow four United by 13 pillars. As a club, we try to bring these to the surface in our social projects as much as possible and also to propagate them to the outside world, as a unit.
First and foremost, a club can never run without cooperation. For us, everything hinges on commitment to the club and to each other. So we try to work together with a lot of partners who care about our club or neighbourhood. Think of our supporters' associations, socially committed organisations, the neighbourhood network, but also bodies such as the Pro League, city of Antwerp or commercial partners for the club. For us, there should not only be cooperation on the pitch, but also off it.
Apart from this first mainstay, as a club we try to focus on health. Obviously, as a top sports club, we value a healthy lifestyle. We try, again in cooperation, to encourage a healthy lifestyle with organisations such as Younited and Kom Op Tegen Kanker (Fight Against Cancer). Besides the already known organisations, our commercial cell always tries to conclude partnerships with companies that represent our Beerschot DNA.
Inclusion is also a very important factor for us in today’s society. As a club, we want to be a representation of society, and this can only be achieved by staying connected to the people around us. Through our capacity as a club, we strive to create an inclusive environment among volunteers, supporters, staff members, and our neighborhood. By seeking connection with the community and forming a partnership with the city of Antwerp, we aim to achieve shared objectives. These goals are best summarized under the banner of “a pleasant neighborhood for everyone."
Our fourth and final pillar is education and employment. We aim not only to help the people who come into contact with us in the short term, but to support them in a structural and meaningful way throughout their lives. As a club, we try to offer education and employment opportunities in various ways. For instance, when selecting our staff and volunteers, we focus less on proven achievements and more on tapping into their potential. This can only be done by properly training and guiding our people. Additionally, we open our stadium to the people of Ligo Antwerp, an organization that aligns perfectly with our values.
These four cornerstones would make little sense without being framed by a solid structure and functioning. Beerschot strives to always be connecting, inspiring, and motivating in order to develop the themes described here into a strong social and societal policy.
