Lierse – Beerschot 1-3
Nice win for Beerschot in this provincial derby against Lierse with goals from Michez, Konstantopoulos and Reyners. Our Mannekes made the difference with passion and commitment that proved too strong for a motivated home team.
Fortyfive entertaining minutes of football, a chain of hard tackles but only one goal; that was the first half in a nutshell. Beerschot created the first dangerous combination with a one-two between Cagro and Kosiah who was fouled by Teunckens. A clear penalty, but the ref blew his whistle for offside. At the other end Van Acker threatened but his shot hit the crossbar. Two minutes later Simion Michez was more efficient. Our wingback swerved into the box and placed the ball low in the near corner beating Teunckens. One-nil to the Beerschot boys!
Lierse's reaction followed immediately but Matijas saved with the help of his defenders. Kosiah, who had a complete off day tonight, then saw his shot saved by the home goalie... and minutes later, on the brink of half time, even failed from the penalty spot. Hard luck for our Liberian striker.
After the break Lierse equalised when Van Acker did better from eleven metres after the ref had penalised a foul from Alhassan. One-one. That was a wake up call for Beerschot who then took control over the game, pushed Lierse deep in defence and scored twice to clinch victory. First Konstantopoulos headed in, ten minutes later Reyners immaculately curled the bal in the far corner. What a great goal that was! Beerschot three-one up and on their way to a nice win.
In the final minutes Matthys conceded a penalty and got sent off. Van Acker failed to score as he hit the ball high over Matijas' goal.
