A more than deserved draw for Beerschot who started well, were denied a clear penalty for handball in the very first minute, opened the score a bit later by Konstantopoulos but then conceded three goals in which ref Put played a major but negative role. After the break our Mannekes bounced back with a goal from Shankland and an equaliser in stoppage time. It was 20 year old Ilias Sebaoui, who had come on for Holzhauser, who kept his nerves, took responsability and coolly converted a spot kick.
Referee Put was the main talking point during and after the game with his bad handling of a couple of handball/penalty decisions. Twp clear handballs, two different decisions. When Zulte Waregem defender De Bock handled from a Shankland shot the referee waved to play on and didn't even check VAR; at the other end when Bourdin saw the ball fall on his arm he blew his whistle, consulted the VAR screen and awarded a spot kick. Disgusting refereeing it was.
Zulte Waregem reacted swiftly after Konstantopoulos had scored his first Beerschot goal and smartly countered their way from 1-0 behind to a 1-3 lead. With swift and well taken goals from Kutesa and De Neve. The game looked all over at the break.
But Beerschot bounced back in a spectacular second half. With Ilias Sebaoui in a starring role. The 20 yerar old Moroccan Belgian was decisive from the moment he came on to replace Rapha Holzhauser, immediately set up Shankland for Beerschot's second goal and then had the guts and the nerves to claim the ball when a penalty was awarded in stoppage time. The visitor's goalkeeper didn't stand a chance against Sebaoui's low shot in the left corner. Impressive.
