HORRIBLE START LEADS TO DEFEAT

KV OOSTENDE - BEERSCHOT  3 - 1

Eight games played, seven defeats. Even after the sacking of head coach Peter Maes Beerschot were unable to stop the rot. We shot ourselves in the foot with two horrific mistakes in the first seven minutes. First a unnecesarily penalty foul from Frans, easily converted by Gueye. Then our defense made a hash following an Ostend corner which gave Capon the opportunity to score too easily. Over and out after just seven minutes: what a dismal start. Our first half was atrocious; after the break - when Mosés Caicedo was brought on - Beerschot won the battle in midfield but that wasn't enough to pick up a point. In the end a late consolation goal by Soumaré was our only moment of glory.

Beerschot reacted with a rush from Soumaré on the right wing, a good infiltration from Bourdin on the left and Coulibaly trying his luck through the middle. KVO goalie Hubert saved easily. The home team then took over control again and Mike Vanhamel had to produce two excellent saves to keep the half time scoreline at 2-0.

Interim coach Marc Noé brought on Vaca for Frans at the start of the second half. KV Oostende were second best for fifteen minutes but Suzuki, Soumaré and Coulibaly didn't score from three chances. Beerschot were punished for not converting those good scoring opportunities when Amada was given all the space and time in the world to put Oostende 3-0 up with a clinical low shot in the far corner.

Beerschot' consolation goal came ten minutes from the end. It was Soumaré who took advantage from a blatant mistake in the home defense. VAR decided the ball had crossed the line so the goal stood. Three-one at the end. More problems and frustration. One promising factor though was Mosés Caicedo's debut just before the hour. The 19 year old immediately made his presence felt, settled in well in midfield and impressed with his vision and character. He could well be the missing link next to Raphael Holzhauser to make the team stronger and better. We live in hope.
