Standard - Beerschot 1-0
STANDARD - BEERSCHOT 1 - 0
Beerschot played this game "on condition" as our club's appeal against the FA's decision playing was compulsary hadn't been handled yet. A very disturbing situation. On the pitch Beerschot didn't deliver. Standard were by far the better team in the first half with dangerous shots from Tapsoba and Raskin.
The home team scored on the half hour when Dragus picked up a ball from Raskin and beat Vanhamel from the edge of the box. Beerschot's reaction came immediately with a Sebaoui-Dom combination. But Henkinet saved. Just before the break Vanhamel prevented a second Standard goal when he fisted away a drive from Dragus.
Early in the second half Standard had Dussenne sent off for elbowing Vaca but Beerschot couldn't capitalize. The Bolivian who had come on at half time was Beerschot's most dangerous player by a mile but saw his shots saved by goalkeeper Henkinet, and missed a golden opportunity from a Shankland cross. His header hobbled wide.
